Treatment Sand

Treatment Sand is used as water, washing, cooling, dilution or raw material during the production phase. In all these uses, water purification is needed in order to provide certain standards in production. Depending on the characteristic of the raw water source, the treatment process is decided. From time to time, according to the analysis value of the water, filtration systems specific to the parameter to be purified are preferred.

Why is Treatment Sand Used?

Suspended solids causing turbidity in water, silica sand, silica gravel, quartz sand etc. Sand filter systems are used to remove contaminants. They are used as a pre-treatment system for process and drinking water, and to remove the turbidity of treated water from wastewater treatment systems.

Treatment sand is silica sand, silica gravel, quartz sand, quartz pebbles used in drinking water treatment. It is used to purify sediment, turbidity and particles in water. Quartz sand and gravel sizes vary according to the flow of water in wastewater and domestic drinking water treatment systems. It can also filter chemicals such as chlorine, aluminum sulfate, activated carbon, ferric chloride, anthracite for harmful microorganisms and bacteria mixed with water.

“Treatment sand is produced from natural quartz sands after washing and screening processes in accordance with TS EN 12904 standards and classified in the desired dimensions. Quartz sands used as treatment sands do not dissolve in acid tests and do not lose mass.”

Where is Treatment Sand Used?

Silica sand, silica gravel, quartz sand, quartz gravel, filter sand and gravel are mainly used in drinking water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, boiler filters and swimming pools.

How to Use Treatment Sand?

There are fast and slow sand (silica-quartz) filter systems in drinking water treatment plants. In fast sand filters, it generally works with a nozzle in the range of 0.8-1.2 mm filter sand and with a backwash system. In slow sand filters, bedding is made with 15-25 mm filter gravel and 5-15 mm filter gravel. 3-5 mm and 1-3 mm gravel is placed on it. The top layer is about 1 meter high filter sand in the range of 0.3 - 0.5 mm. In slow filters, the water flow rate is low. Depending on the chemical structure and pollution rate of the water, slow or fast sand filter selections can be made. Sometimes the top layer filter sand sizes can be between 0.4-0.8 mm and 0.6-1 mm or the specified alternative size range. The use of silica sand or quartz sand will not affect the efficiency of the filtration. Quartz Sand mineral and silica sand mineral show the same properties.
